New Vehicle & Battery Warranty
The BYD Shark 6 commercial warranty covers 6 years or 150,000 km for the vehicle, starting from the date of first registration (or the date of delivery in Western Australia). The Power Battery and Drive Unit, which includes the drive motor and drive motor controller, are protected by an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty, whichever occurs first. This includes a guarantee of at least 70% battery capacity retention. BYD may repair or replace these components with a new, reconditioned, or remanufactured part at its sole discretion.
The BYD SHARK 6 features a 29.6 kWh BYD Blade Battery. Specific battery care instructions must be followed to maintain coverage. The power battery should be kept at 40% to 60% state of charge when the vehicle is unused for more than 7 days. If unused for more than 3 months, it must be fully charged and then discharged back to 40% to 60% every 3 months. The vehicle must be recharged promptly if the state of charge drops to 0%, as damage from failing to do so is not covered. It is recommended to fully charge at least once a week, and a full charge from below 10% via AC charging every three to six months aids range estimation. In temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, charge right after use.
Other components have specific coverage periods. Genuine spare parts imported by BYD Australia and installed by an authorised BYD Retailer are covered for 12 months from the date of purchase. Paint application defects are covered for 1 year, and the lead acid starting 12V battery is covered for 12 months or 20,000 km, whichever occurs first. The emergency charging and discharging device, including the AC charging connection device, is covered for 12 months. Tyres are not covered by the BYD warranty; tyre manufacturers’ warranties apply. To confirm the exact BYD Shark 6 delivery wait times in Australia or current warranty details, confirm with BYD Automotive Australia.
Required Documentation & Servicing
To maintain the warranty, the vehicle must be serviced strictly per the manufacturer’s recommendations. The official service schedule mandates visits at 20,000 km or 12 months, 40,000 km or 24 months, 60,000 km or 36 months, 80,000 km or 48 months, 100,000 km or 60 months, and 120,000 km or 72 months, whichever comes first. However, as a DM series vehicle with HEV components, there is also an initial run-in service required at six months or 3,500 km of HEV trip, whichever comes first.
Owners must keep their logbook, receipts, owner’s manual, and warranty book securely. For exact maintenance details, such as the engine oil specification and service capacity, refer to the official owner’s manual. Under severe operating conditions, service intervals may need to be shortened.
When dealing with fleet management, buyers evaluating BYD Shark 6 novated lease and commercial vehicle tax benefits must ensure all servicing documentation is properly archived. All routine maintenance must be conducted at an authorised BYD service centre.
Warranty Exclusions & Modifications
Certain conditions will void the warranty. The manufacturer excludes coverage for normal wear and tear, regular maintenance items, and work by anyone other than an authorised BYD Service Centre. Exclusions also apply to failure to follow correct charging procedures, odometer tampering, racing and similar use, loading or towing beyond specifications, and failure to service strictly per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Use of non-BYD genuine or non-recommended parts causing damage is not covered.
Unauthorised modifications or third-party conversions will void coverage. BYD Australia has no gas program, and any LPG, CNG, or autogas conversion is unsupported and will void the manufacturer warranty. Furthermore, EVDirect and BYD warranty terms expressly prohibit unofficial software modifications, ECU tuning, or battery management bypass. The BYD Shark 6 off road driving warranty coverage terms state that accident damage, flood, or water ingress from deep-water wading is excluded.
Charges may be made for servicing items and fluids, wheel alignment and balancing, brake linings, wiper blades, transmitter batteries, gas struts, and body rattles and squeaks after 12 months or 20,000 km.
High-Voltage & Structural Warnings
The BYD SHARK 6 powertrain integrates a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, or 2.0-litre turbo in the Performance variant, with high-voltage electric motors. The Premium model achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration sprint in 5.7 seconds through this hybrid system. Any dangerous work involving the high-voltage system, brakes, steering, airbags, ADAS calibration, or charging hardware must be done by an authorised BYD dealer or a qualified technician.
Owners must not touch or open the high-voltage orange cables under any circumstances. While the vehicle features electric all wheel drive terrain modes like Sand, Mud, and Snow, drivers should not attempt to inspect or repair the Dual Mode Off-road Super Hybrid components themselves. For any mechanical or electrical concerns, consult an authorised BYD dealer.
